Overview
Why FRP / GRP for rooftop solar mounting?
Rooftop solar installations place structural frames in direct, permanent exposure to UV radiation, temperature cycling, rain, and coastal salt air. Traditional aluminium frames corrode at fixings and joints over time, and their weight can place unnecessary load on existing roof structures, a particular concern on residential and commercial properties where structural reinforcement adds cost.
FRP / GRP rooftop mounting frames eliminate these problems. The composite material is inherently corrosion-resistant — no rust at fixings, no degradation at joints, no repainting required over a 30+ year service life. Significantly lighter than aluminium, FRP frames reduce roof loading without sacrificing structural strength.
Reinforce Technology supplies FRP / GRP rooftop solar mounting frames to housebuilders, commercial developers, solar installers, and architects across the UK and internationally. All frames are manufactured to project-defined specifications, compatible with all standard solar module formats, from ISO 9001 certified facilities with full TÜV Rheinland material certification.
Compatibility
Compatible with all roof types
Pitched Roofs

Residential new-build and retrofit on tiled or slated roofs. Lightweight frame reduces structural load, no reinforcement needed on standard constructions.
Flat Roofs

Commercial, industrial, and mixed-use buildings. Ballasted or mechanically fixed configurations. Non-conductive.
Complex Geometries

Mansard, curved, and non-standard profiles. FRP profiles cut on site with standard tools no welding or specialist equipment needed.
Product
Two systems: Flat roof and Pitched roof

Pitched roof mounting system
For residential new-build and retrofit installations on tiled or slated pitched roofs. Lightweight composite frame reduces structural dead load no reinforcement required on standard roof constructions. Compatible with all standard solar module formats and tilt angles. Non-conductive no earthing required.

Flat roof mounting system
Designed for commercial and industrial flat roof membranes. Rubber disc anchor pads distribute load across the roof surface without penetrating the membrane eliminating the leading cause of leaks in retrofitted solar installations. High factory prefabrication rate reduces on-site installation time.
Benefits
Why FRP / GRP outperforms aluminium for rooftop solar
Lightweight - no structural reinforcement
Reduces dead load on existing roof structures - eliminates costly structural upgrades on residential and commercial properties
TÜV Rheinland + GB/T certified
Two independent test datasets - material durability and structural performance both independently verified
Minimal membrane penetration - no leak risk
Flat roof rubber anchor pads distribute load without puncturing the membrane, eliminating the leading cause of retrofit solar leaks
Fast to install - lightweight and easy to fabricate on site
One operative can handle sections at height. Cut to size with a hand saw - no hot works permit, no specialist tools, no reorder if dimensions change
Corrosion resistant - no rust ever
Zero corrosion at fixings, joints, and frame surfaces - critical for coastal, high-humidity, and chemical environments
Non-conductive
No earthing or bonding required - eliminates a common complication around solar wiring and inverters
On-site fabrication
Buy standard lengths. Cut to size on site. No specialist equipment needed.
This is one of the most practical advantages of FRP / GRP over steel or aluminium — and one that directly reduces cost and programme risk on every rooftop installation.
Steel Or Alumnium
Order pre-fabricated to exact dimensions measure twice, hope once
Wrong measurement means waiting for a new fabrication order
Cutting on site requires hot works permit and trained operatives
Sparks and fumes — extra safety requirements on rooftop sites
Heavy sections need multiple operatives to lift and position
FRP / GRP
Buy standard 2m or 3m lengths — cut to exact size on site
Design change on site? Cut a new section — no reorder needed
Standard hand saw or circular saw — no hot works permit required
No sparks, no fumes — simpler site safety on rooftop installations
Lightweight — one operative can handle, position, and fix
01
Order standard lengths
No custom fabrication - order standard 2m or 3m pultruded FRP profiles
What this means in practice: A contractor fitting FRP solar frames on a rooftop with vents, skylights, and irregular dimensions can adapt in real time. With steel, the same job means a site survey, a fabrication order, a delivery wait, and a hot works permit. FRP removes every one of those steps.
02
Mark and cut on site
Standard hand saw or circular saw, no specialist tools, no hot works permit
03
Drill and fix
Standard drill for fixing holes, no welding, no grinding, no special PPE
04
Adapt as you go
Unexpected obstruction? Cut a new section on the spot - no delay, no reorder
Technical Data
Verified structural and material performance
Two independent test datasets — GB/T structural testing specific to the flat roof frame profiles, and TÜV Rheinland material durability testing.
